BERGAMOT
Principal constituents .
Contains about 3oo compounds in the expressed oil; mainly acetate(30-60 percent), linol (11-22 percent) and other alocohols, sesquiterpenes, terpenes, alkanes and furocoumarins(including bergapten(0.30-0.39).
Certain furocoumarins, notably bergapten, have been found to be photoxic on human skin: that is they cause sensitization and skin pigmentation when exposed to direct sunlight(in concentration and in dilution even after some time,) Berapten-free oils is safer to use. Otherwise bergamot is a non-toxic and relatively non- irritant oil.
THERAPEUTIC USES
Bergamot is good for skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema etc. Also as an insect repellent and insect bites. It can be used for mouth infections, sore throats, tonsillitis and halitosis. It is also good for the immune and nervous system and can be used for colds and infectious diseases, anxiety, depression and stress related conditions.
It is an analgesic, anthelmintic, antidepressant, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antitoxic, carminative, digestive, diuretic ,deodorant, febrifuge, laxative, parasiticide, fubefacient, stimulant, stomachic, tonic vermifuge, vulnerary.
SYNERGY
It blends well with lavender, neroli, jasmine, cypress, geranium, lemon, chamomile, juniper , coriander and violet.
